Haunted by his failure to save a child from a suicidal madman, hostage negotiator Jeff Tally leaves Los Angeles to become police chief of upscale suburb Bristo Camino. But the ghosts of Tally's previous field come back to haunt him when two brothers and their mysterious traveling companion Mars Krupchek take a suburbanite family hostage after a failed robbery. Unbenknownst to the gunmen, their hostage is actually a numbers runner for West Coast kingpin Sonny Benza, and the house contains evidence that put him away. Facing heat from associates in New York, Benza kidnaps Tally's wife and daughter and blackmails him into procuring the incriminating evidence. But the situation escalates even further when Tally discovers that Mars is a serial killer who is eyeing the hostages, and possibly his accomplices, to be his next victims.
In a small town in California, the chief of police Jeff Talley is facing relationship problems with his teenager daughter. One year later, he was the prime police negotiator in Los Angeles, but after an unsuccessful negotiation, he gave-up his position and decided to move with his family to a calmer life. When three punks invade the house of Walter Smith, a wealthy accountant, and jeopardize his family, holding them hostage, Jeff's family is abducted by powerful criminals to force him to retrieve a DVD with bank accountings' information kept in Walter's office.
If I were ever in a hostage situation where a couple of punk teenagers tried to rob me and Bruce Willis came in to talk and negotiate with the perps, I think I'd rather be dead, because with Bruce Willis doing the negotiations, I'm as good as dead anyway. There really isn't much to say about this movie, it's just really bad. I got to admit, I was disappointed when I saw this movie. I love Bruce Willis. Bruce Willis is the man and he's awesome, but this movie was really bad. The biggest and most obvious reason why this movie is really bad is the fact the criminal masterminds in it are some punk teenagers who happen to marksmen with an automatic handgun (one is able to hit accurate shots from probably a hundred yards away with out taking aim) and are able to outsmart a strike team of professional gangsters (taking them out such as crawling through vents and hanging upside down out of them to take one out). Yeah, sounds pretty dumb right? That's because it is. There's even a scene that is supposed to be dramatic and get you feeling for the characters when the little hostage boy asks Bruce Willis if he is Captian Xuemba (or something) and if it's like he's going to save the planet. Willis get choked up and replies "yeah". Wow. How sweet, I was crying too at this point, crying because I was laughing so damn hard. It breaks my heart to say that this will probably be one of the worst movie of the 2005, and meant it. But truth be known, it really is.
I won&#39;t add much to the other comments for this movie. More than 260 I guess!! Except that any of them, perhaps I am wrong, points out that the director - Florent Emilio Siri - used the same pyrotechnics effects as he did in his previous film: NID DE GUEPES - WASP NEST. This sequence is at the end of the feature, when the fights begins in the house between Willis, the young and petty thief - and murderer - and the very baddies, professional ones, the really nasty ones, impersonating FBI agents.<br/><br/>The sequence is exciting at the most and when I see it, I think of NID DE GUEPES. Same shooting.<br/><br/>And what&#39;s interesting in this movie is the scheme bad guys vs bad guys at the end, when the petty hoodlum and killer destroys two of the pros who bust into the house to get the DVD. It&#39;s not usual. The same pros who kidnapped ant threatened Bruce Willi&#39;s family.<br/><br/>This film is a very effective action packed yarn.
Bruce looks hot and underplays handsomely as always, but Hostage is a steaming pile of siege clichés and screaming unlikelihoods.
